Where Vama is
Vama is a village in Suceava county, in southern Bucovina, in the valley of the river Moldova, between Gura Humorului and Câmpulung Moldovenesc. The main road is the DN17 (E58), which links Suceava to Vatra Dornei and on to Bistrița.
Do not confuse it with Vama Buzăului, in Brașov county, and do not take it for a border post either — vamă does mean “customs” in Romanian, but here it is simply the name of the village.
From Suceava, Iași or Bucharest
From Suceava, follow the DN17 (E58) west through Gura Humorului as far as Vama (~50 km, about 50 min). From Iași (~195 km, ~2h 45 min), arrive via DN28 and DN17. From Bucharest (~480 km, ~6h 30 min), take DN2 / E85 to Suceava, then DN17. From Cluj-Napoca (~215 km, ~3h 30 min) or Bistrița, follow the DN17 from Vatra Dornei.
By train
Vama has a railway station on the Suceava – Vatra Dornei line. Ring reception before you arrive if you are coming by train and we will tell you exactly how to get here from the station.
By air
The nearest airport is “Ștefan cel Mare” Suceava International Airport (SCV), located approximately 62 km away (~1 hour drive). Iași International Airport (IAS) is approximately 195 km away (~2h 45 min drive).
