The Suceava Fortress, built at the end of the 14th century near the medieval city of Suceava, was the main residence of the Moldavian lords for almost 200 years, today a national historical monument.
The medieval architectural ensemble, made up of the castle and defensive walls, was consolidated and completed within the framework of a vast project with financing in the period 2011-2015, restoring its imposing appearance, which has entered the legend, but also the subtle princely glow of the past.
In 2016, the first permanent exhibition illustrating topics of great interest to the public, such as the first and most comprehensive presentation of medieval weapons from Moldova, the coats of arms of Moldovan lords and boyars from the 14th - 17th centuries, or the Medieval Treasury of Moldova, was held in Suceava Citadel in 2016. . The lapidary for the first time recomposes the most complete image of the Suceava Citadel, highlighting the constructive systems and architectural decoration, dominated in the 15th century by various Gothic themes. Medieval domestic utilities, such as terracotta stoves, surprisingly and elegantly combine local decorative motifs with Central European ones. Multimedia systems with a medieval historical theme and video projections with topics related to the history of the citadel represent an exhibition novelty in Romania. The best received by the visiting public are the interactive book on the medieval history of Moldova - Strangers about us and the video projection Chronicle of the Suceava Fortress, reconstructing a surprising and living world, distant and yet very real, with the strong feeling that we are all part of the same story !
