The medieval museum of the Putna Monastery

The Putna Monastery Museum is perhaps the richest and most valuable in the country, keeping many objects from Stephen the Great, the monastery being famous for its treasury of embroideries, fabrics, manuscripts, silverware, cult objects.

The Putna Monastery Museum, remodeled in 1976 and 2004, is located in the western part of the premises, next to the Chapel. Part of the artistic and historical treasure of the monastery is kept here, consisting of manuscripts (Tetraevanghele, Psalters, teaching books, Leastvites, Psaltichii) and embroideries made in the workshops of the monastery (epitaphs, covers for the holy vessels, veils, doors, temple waves , grave covers, priests' vestments), religious and educational books, church incense (holy vessels, iron crosses, icons, censers, candles), ceramic objects, etc.

Among the high-priced objects are the miracle-working icon of the Mother of God brought, according to tradition, from Constantinople in 1472 by Mrs. Maria de Mangop, the wife of Saint Voivode Stefan, and the skull of Saint Hierarch Ghenadie, great miracle worker, encased in gilded silver and donated to the monastery by its founder in 1488.
