One of the most popular Moldovan saints of all time was Daniil the Hermit, also known as \"Saint Daniil the Monk\" or \"Saint Daniil the New\", to distinguish him from the prophet from the Old Testament or Daniil Stalpnicul.<\/p>\n
His memory has been passed down from generation to generation, during his lifetime, from the second half of the 15th century, until today. One of the traditions preserved among the people about Daniil the Hermit was fixed in writing much later, by the great Moldavian chronicler Ion Neculce (1672-1745), in his work \"O sama de cuvinte\". Other traditions about him are still preserved today in the villages and monasteries of Bucovina.<\/p>\n
The Cell of Saint Daniil the Hermit \u2013 a prayer corner on the Putnei Valley<\/strong><\/p>\n The passing of Saint Daniil the Hermit through this life left traces not only in the memory of his disciples and believers, but also in the places where he lived. And in the valley of Putna and in the valley of Voronet, his cells remained, after him, which the believers investigate to this day.<\/p>\n After donning the great schism, i.e. the last step of the monkhood, receiving the name Daniil, the new hieroshimon retreated to a secret place, towards the mountain, on the banks of the Viteul river, today in the village of Putna. There he found a rock in which he painstakingly carved a chapel.<\/p>\n The stone cell from Putna is not far from the place where the Viteul river flows into the Putna river; the other, from the Voronet valley, is under the Soimului rock. Among them, we will describe the one from Putna, as being better known.<\/p>\n The cell of St. Daniil the Hermit is dug into a rock, which rises above the valley. The cell is hollowed out with a chisel and includes a chapel with three partitions, namely: pronaos, naos and altar. The length of the entire place hollowed out in the stone is 9.25 meters, and the height is 2 meters.<\/p>\n Under the rock is another hollow place, which seems to have been the hermit's home. Si pe valea Putnei si pe valea Voronetului au ramas, de pe urma lui, chiliile sale, pe care credinciosii le cerceteaza pana in zilele noastre. Dupa ce a imbracat schima cea mare, adica ultima treapta a calugariei, primind numele Daniil, noul ieroschimonah s-a retras intr-un loc tainuit, inspre munte, pe malul paraului Viteul, azi in satul Putna. Acolo a gasit o stanca in care a daltuit cu multa osteneala un paraclis. Chilia de piatra de la Putna se afla nu departe de locul unde se varsa paraul Viteul in paraul Putna; cealalta, din valea Voronetului, se afla sub stanca Soimului. Dintre ele o vom descrie, ca fiind mai cunoscuta, pe cea de la Putna. Chilia Sfantului Daniil Sihastrul este sapata intr-o stanca, ce se inalta deasupra vaii. Chilia este scobita cu dalta si cuprinde un paraclis cu trei despartituri, si anume: pronaos, naos si altar. Lungimea intregului loc scobit in piatra este de 9.25 metri, iar inaltimea de 2 metri. Sub stanca se afla alt loc scobit, care se pare ca a fost locuinta sihastrului. Incaperea de dedesubt ii slujea drept chilie, dupa ostenelile zilei; in ea se nevoia zi de zi cu post aspru, rugaciuni neincetate, primind de la Dumnezeu darul lacrimilor si rugaciunea mintii.
